ASME B31G-2009

Hi all,


I have a question please regarding the ASME B31G 2009 for level 1 evaluation.

The equation for SF for z equal or higher to 50 is given on page 6.

For z lesser than 50 (page 5), there is no mention for SF. Should one use the same equation?

For the modified B31G method (beginning at the bottom of page 5), z is used to calculate M (Folias or bulging stress factor); M is used to calculate the failure stress (S_f).
For z less than 50, the M equation is on the bottom of page 5; for z over 50, the M equation is at the top of page 6. Use the calculated M value in the S_f equation at the top of page 6.

Any feedback?

I'm trying to understand some of the background.

Is Sflow more or less the yield stress and Sf the failure stress for the pipe?
