ASME Code Case 2211 2

Hello,

I can not find in our library any reference to ASME Code Case 2211 "Pressure Vessels with Overpressure Protection by System Design". Is this a separate document or it is a part of the Code?

Code Cases are separate documents issued by ASME B&PV Code and are listed by either subject or number. Code Case 2211 was approved on 10/29/99.

To supplement metengr's post, if you can't find a Code Case that has been approved, in all liklihood it has been incorporated into the Code.

So, if the code case 2211 was approved - as metengr mentioned -in 1999, it supposed to be included in 2004 Ed. of Code, but it is not there. Could you please suggest where else I might be able to find it?

If you are a stamp holder try your AIA or see what you can find on ASME's web site. I'm not familiar enough with the Code Case to tell you whether, how, or if it has been incorporated into the text.

Are Code Cases issued individually? I noticed in ASME's catalog, you can get the "Code Cases" book for $495- is there some way to get just one of them?

Foe your information: CC 2211 was passed on 10-29-99 reaffirmed on 10-29-02 and is set to expire on 10-29-05.

It may have been reaffirned at Code Week Last week but to my knowledge it had not been incorporated into the Code. It may never be, there are some C C that will.

If you need a copy you may call your jursdiction and ask them, you should also check with them to see if they will accept 2211. Acceptance of code cases by a Jursdiction is NOT automatic.

Jstephen, of course you can't get just 1 ASME wants to sell books.

For the time being, there is a low probability of CC2211 being incorporated into Div. 1 - there are some jurisdictions that are opposed to it. One that note, please keep in mind that with all Code Cases, you need prior approval from the owner/user AND the jurisdiction to use any Code Case.

W.r.t. buying 1 Code Case - I agree with aclark that ASME is not interested in selling 1 ofs. However, you could try a company like IHS.

As to whether it ever becomes part of the code remains to be seen but apparently there is a joint API/ASME committee working towards that end.

By the way, if you happen to have a copy of the Chlorine Institutes Pamphlet 60 - Chlorine Pipelines, there is a copy of code case 2211 included in the appendix. Or if you happen to have a copy of the AIChE, CCPS publication "Guidelines for Pressure Relief and Effluent Handling Systems", they also have included a copy of code case 2211. The ones here would not be considered the latest versions but would at least give you an idea of the issues.
