I am working for an ASME project.

I shall review all the coming materials certificates.

Some materials certificates come as (ASTM A), and it is not stated (ASME SA).

So, my question is, can we accept materials certificates ONLY with ASTM A ?

Or shall it is mentioned also, ASME SA ?

The project is ASME U Stamp.

What does the ASME code say ?

Are these pressure or non-pressure containing parts?

To my knowledge, all pressure containing parts should conform to the ASME SA material specification. But I think there are some exceptions to non-pressure containing parts as listed here...
I would recommend purchasing a copy of the applicable codes and reviewing them.

They are pressure containing parts.

But, I need the place of this statement in the code.

Look at ASME Section VIII Div 1 UG-4. If this is an ASME U-stamp pressure vessel, pressure containing material certificates should be ASME SA only. Some pressure containing materials can be dual certified as ASME/ASTM.

Now the statement is very clear, it shall be SA materials or A/SA. But, SA must be stated.

Thank You.

Take a good look through the following Appendix in ASME II-A and II-B:
Appendix II (Basis for use of acceptable ASME, ASTM, and non-ASTM Editions)

This paragraph provides clear rules on the use of ASTM certified materials for ASME vessel construction.

If materials are only certified to ASTM A or B specifications they must be certified to a specific year of the specification. If the year is acceptable per the Appendix in ASME Section II they may be used if your QCM permits.

The reason for all of this is that some SA specs require things that are optional under ASTM rules, and some SA specs are identical to the A versions.
Each one needs to be verified.
In many cases A specs will not have the rev noted, ASTM does not require this, they expect you to always work to the newest version.
