Dear All,
I have a situation here were my design is more than 3275 psig and the client insist on Div. 1. According to U-1(d) additional stress analysis shall be carried out. Besides FEA, can anyone here advised me what type of stress analysis shall I perform? BTW, my vessel is a code stamp vessel and I try to avoid using FEA.

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, are you mean I have to do some additional Div.2 calculation to prove the vessel is safe? If I am right, can you please show me which calculation shall I include. Thanks again.

The best place to find out what needs to be done is to contact the engineer who will certify the drawings and calculations. Your PE.

Despite all the rules that are in the Section VIII code, as long as your PE is happy with your work you have satisfied the code requirement.

Check with your PE and explain the situation. They should be able to help.
