Hi
can anybody please interpertate ASME section IX clause 407.1.
Also does 407.6 support, 407.1?
i.e. 407.6 applies when 407.1 is applicable.
thanks for your help in advance.

sandeepkumar,
When QW 407.6 is applicable (eg. Hard facing overlay welding) then you have to comply with the requirements of QW 407.6 & QW 407.1,

DD

Hi,
I do not agree with DekDee.
The use of ASME IX must perform always in the same way. For Procedure qualifications the applicable tables Qw-252 to QW-269 have to review as first.

For each process exist two tables:
-one for the standard process and
-one for “special processes” hardfacing and corrosion resistant overlay (CRO)
These tables clear indicate that QW-407.1 is applicable only for standard process and QW-407.6 is applicable for hardfacing only.
This means either QW-407.1 or QW-407.6 is applicable, but never both variables. Because a standard process e.g. SMAW do not qualifies for special processes e.g. SMAW hardfacing and vice versa.

Juergen,
Please explain your response.

"This means either QW-407.1 or QW-407.6 is applicable, but never both variables."

QW-407.6 A change in postweld heat treatment condition
in QW-407.1 or an increase of 25% or more in total
time at postweld heat treating temperature.

DD

Agree with DD.

To make it short: QW-407.6 = QW-407.1 + increase 25% time or more
