Nasir,

I couldn't find one, either. I know that US Mil-STD's and AWS have them, but nothing in ASME other than ones for NDT/NDI/NDE inspectors. Thanks for the second look.

The fact that ASME IX doesn't directly require it does not mean it isn't a good idea. A person's vision definitely changes over time and sometimes without being obvious.

ASME nor AWS codes address a welder's or welding operator's vision requirements or testing of such.

Vision requirements however are found in both codes concerning AWS CWI and NDE technician.

Are you concerned with a current welder's ability to make sound welds? If so, retest the welder.

Wekdtel and QC Robert, No not concerned with the welders welds but, he seems to be pushing to no longer to be a welder. Me being a Retired-Navy NDT guy I was used to a welder meeting the J-1 Jeger chart vision test requirements and not being able to identify any requirement had me thinking I was missing something. Thanks for you input.

He must be wanting to be an inspector?

That was my reasoning years ago to get out of the welding (welder) vocation.

Funny Guy. LOL More like being a pain to me, figure I'll let HR deal with it fom here..

Both ASME B31.1 and B31.3 require VT per ASME V, Article 9, which requires Examiners to have annual vision acuity tests to read J1 letters or eqivalent.

"When welders go blind, make them inspectors."

Stanweld, you got me pegged! lol

My welders recently gave me a pair of rose colored safety glasses thinking it would improve my perception of their welds....

QCRobert, So how is that working out for them? LOL
