ASME Section IX WPQ in 2G Rotated Position

Hey Everyone,

I was posed the question as to whether or not 2G Rotated could be used during welder performance qualifications and still be ASME Section IX compliant. This would make it easier for welders to pass, however we do non-rotated 2G welds. I am leaning towards the standard fixed 2G weld test because we use that in manufacturing and I would like the test to match reality. Am I being too picky? Another reason I ask is because I don't believe ASME section IX even shows 2G rotated as a welding position.

Thanks for any input!

You are not too picky....common sense sometimes prevails. If your welder can't pass a test that copies what they will do in production, they shouldn't be employed.
2G pipe coupon cannot be rotated, per Sec. IX (QW-120)

Thank you for the second opinion! I will go ahead with my initial thought then.

If 2G could be rotated look how much walking you could save [bigsmile]
