For sketch 13-2(a)(2) in Appendix 13, if H is larger than h, are the equations for calculating the corner and mid-point bending stresses still vslid? If not, is there a valid modification that can be made to the equations?

sidneyj, perhaps you need to re-visit the nomeclature, 13-5. H is defined as the short side, h as the long side. h cannot be less than H.

Are you saying the two short side plates are of unequal thickness?

That is exactly what I am saying. The two short side plates are of unequal thickness and the two long side plates are of equal thickness. Just the opposite of sketch 13-2(a)(2). How do I solve for bending stresses?
 
sidneyj, off top of head I don't know any easy answer to this. 13-7(b) states the max stresses occur at the corners or at midpoint of long sides. This could suggest that the unequal thickness for the short sides is not especially important.

These are horribly complex equations to try to predict the effect of out-of-scope situations.

All I can offer is to run the vessel twice (at each short side thickness) and observe the results. Perhaps several runs as a Sketch (1) vessel as well. Assuming you are not doing the calculations by hand of course.
