ASME VIII div 1 - relief divices

Hello, I have a question about an ASME VIII div. Is it always necessary to install relief devices in the vessel? Or in any situation is allowed to install it on the lines associated?

Relief valves are often installed on piping and not the vessel. Even a spot to fill in on U-1A about it.
