Hi,

We have a deep strength pavement design, and was wondering if there are rules regarding the timing/condition in placing asphalt layers on top of each other?

If we have 4 layers of asphalt including the wearing course, can this be placed, compacted and then the next player being placed right away?

Is there normally a time period ie 24hrs before the next layer can be placed? want to schedule the program properly.

Cheers,

No restrictions to my knowledge. One thing is that you want to allow each lift to cool enough so that you are not evaporating the tack coat for the next lift. That can happen for either an emulsified tack coat or a solvent tack coat.

Agree with both oldest and ron. In my opinion, you get a better product if you can place base, binder and top courses in the same day. If you allow traffic on it before next layer, you will have added task to clean and prep before you can apply tack coat and start paving again.
