Assembly Load Options... 1

Hello guys! I'm new to the forums; used I-Deas for a few years, switched to NX 2 years ago.

Ok, so here is my problem:

I have a parent assembly part located in a folder. All sub-assembly parts are located in sub-folders of said folder. This isn't a problem on my computer because in "Assembly Load Options" I set "Load" to "From Search Folders," have added all the necessary sub-folders, and "Save to File" these load options.

This will be an inconvenience when I deliver these files to my customer. My customer will either have to:
(A)modify his folder structure to match mine or
(B)modify the load option file to his desired location

My customer might then pass these files on to other companies/agencies (who aren't proficient with NX) and I'm afraid these steps won't be followed.

Thanks to GTAC, I was able to condense my load options file to include only the parent folder by using "...". (If not familiar with "..." NX will search for and then load parts from the parent folder and any sub-folders.)

Why can't "..." be an option for "From Folder" load options? For instance, load my parts "From Folder" and then a toggle for "Include Sub-Folders." It would simplify the process and negate the need for the load options file.

Please help! Thanks

Would it be easier if you could just put your entire assembly in a single folder when you pass it to your 'customer'? If so, perhaps you might wish to use the UGZip utilty to 'zip' your entire assembly up as a single file which when the customer loads it onto his system he can do so as a single folder thus eliminating all the Load Option issues.

For more information about where to download UGZip, go to:

And don't be to concerned where it says that it works with NX 2 and NX 3, since I've tested this on NX 7.5 and it works just fine.

Also, you may wish to review a couple of other threads here on Eng-Tips which covers this and similar issues, including:

Thanks for the reply, John.

We typically put all files into one folder but weren't able to with this particular assembly. None of the parts are native to NX but rather Mechanical Desktop. Because of the file structure in MD, we had to create separate folders for each main sub-assembly.

On a side note, there are about 4000 parts in this assembly.

Also forgot to mention that I'm using 6.0.2.8

If you're working with assemblies this large and you will be managing complex structures, perhaps you should consider installing TeamCenter.

Hahahahah, funny you should mention that... We got so fed up with our attempts to install TeamCenter that we have almost given up on it. I'm not sure what problems we were having (I wasn't involved in the process) but I remember our IT guy having many phone calls, headaches, and even 2 visits by TeamCenter people trying to get the kinks worked out.

Hi Stew,

You can load your subfolders by setting the path as "C:\\Products\\..."

when you give ... in the last it automatically includes the subfolders

hope this will help you..
