Open a new part file then Insert > Part Copy.
Whether its successful will depend on the assembly.
Some conditions such as an edge lying on a face may cause an error.
Also, you can do it via creating a simplified assembly if my memory is correct. Once you have a simplified assembly there is a way to save it as a part.
Please note, I've done the technique beachcomber mentions, we once asked Solid Edge about it and they strongly discouraged us from doing it.
This is a regular function for us here at C.I. We assemble individual components (i.e. a weldment). We then do as beachcomber recommends, Insert Part Copy into a part file. We then do all the "machining" required in the part environment. This has worked well for us for years. Then we purchased Teamcenter Express. Let's not go there.
Hello. I would like to ask someone who know how to save an assembly as a part in library? I am using solid edge v17 at the moment.Because i have already tried the method above but it failed.Can someone give another option of doing that.

It will fail if the assembly contains "non-manifold" boundary conditions between parts. The cylindrical edges of two parallel cylinders touching, thus forming a "line" of contact, is one such "non-manifold" example. The PWD file was a special part file that would allow this for weldments but it had limited features available, and while you can still find the template for it, it has been depricated in favor of creating weldments directly in an assembly.
To be able to create a part file of the assembly, the methods described in prior posts are the only solutions. You could modify your assembly to eliminate the possibility of the non-manifold conditions, but you have to just look to find them as there are no analysis tools to help you.
Thanks PellaKen.But can you explain more about the non manifold boundary conditions between parts.I have no idea about that.Actually what im doing right now is to save certain parts from the whole assembly of a Robot Montage system,so that we can use the particular parts at another time.Can you explain more about it.Thanks again.

You talk about saving parts from the assembly to re-use later.

Owh sorry for the incomplete information.Actually the robot montage system consist of many assemblies such as sensor,lift and etc.I would like to separate each assembly so that i can use it later.Is it necessary to convert them into parts? can you give your opinion on it. If you have any questions regarding that i am very pleased to explain about the situation.

It is not necessary to convert assemblies to parts in order to use them again later.
I can't think why you would have the impression that you would need to.
If you can explain a little more exactly how you are building your assembly it might help us to help you.
