I have the following question, who can help me please?
We have to supply forgings according to ASTM A182, complete certified including supplementary requirement S6, which is a hardness test.
Quote: "S6.1 Each forging shall be hardness tested and shall meet the requirements of Table 3."

Literal, when we have a batch of 1,000 equal sizes forging, of the same heat, produced in a same continues run, we have to test all 1,000 forging each on hardness.

Is my interpretation correct?
If so, what is the reason for this 100% check, because all forgings have suffer the same treatment, so all test results shall show the same results.
Besides, it will push up the price of the product.

Thank you.

Edgar50, S6 is imposed by the purchaser, correct? If not, it does not apply.

If so, you are going to have to work out a sampling program with the purchaser, unless the purchaser really wants 100% test.

Mike

SnTMan is correct. The vendor must supply what is required on the PO if agreed upon, which includes Supplemental Requirements. It is too bad when vendors don't read the fine print.

You show the customer your internal specification that lays out the sampling plan according to some standard statistically based system. If they want to increase it, fine. You negotiate. I don't see where 100% is the required default. But if you don't have a procedure in your quality system for this you are at risk.
