Hi folks,

I have been reading and re-reading my copy of A320 looking for references that would control thread length. Does anyone know where I should be looking?

The specifics of my situation are that I have a design drawing that specifies A320 grade L7, 1-3/4" x 5" long. I am producing fabrication drawings and BOMs from this design drawing.
These screws are passing through a flange and entering a thick tapped plate, so I need the threads to be long enough that they don't interfere before the head and washer are holding the flange.
The best I have come up with at this point is ASME B18.2.1. I have seen a few resources online listing this as the controlling document for A320 thread length, but I have not found any references to it in A320 itself.

Thanks,
Matt

MToomey,

You will find ASTM A320 refers to ASTM A962. ASTM A962 section 13.3.1 refers to ASME B18.2.1 (for inch bolts) and states the heavy hex series should be used. Suggest you obtain a copy of ASTM A962 if you do not already have it. It contains a lot of requirements applicable to A320 (and a few other bolt and nut standards) that does not appear in such standards.

Well I don't know how I didn't see that one! Thanks for the good answer.
