Hi,

I am presently working on an enquiry from a client for a pressure veseel with a design temperature of - 60 deg C. The client requests to use ASTM A 537 plate class 1 and needs guaranteed impact values of 40J at the design temp of -60 deg C.

Can anyone tell me if this plate is impact tested at -60 deg C and if it is indeed more suitable than A516 70 LT 50 etc?

Any help on the plate and where it could be sourced from in Europe would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

We had purchased this material with -65 F impacts per ASME VIII but not with 40 J absorbed energy. You must talk to the steel mills to find which one, if any, can meet your toughness requirements.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. Sorry for the confusion but the 40J is an average value over three readings with a minimum value of 27J as the client requirement.

Many thanks

ASTM A537-1 is only delivered with guaranteed impact values if you require it .
ASTM A537-1 is more suitable to obtain high impact values compared to ASTM A 516 70.
Sources in Europe: a lot of producers can deliver this grade.
