Hi All,

For a project we are looking at, ASTM A860 WPHY 60 specified as fitting material for a gas transmission line designed to ASME B31.8. Pipe material is API 5L X60. Whilst I know use of ASTM A860 fittings is a common practice. I can not find A860 material listed in Mandatory appendix A or C of ASME B31.8. Does A860 material allowed via another another reference listed in Appendix A or C rather that direct listing of its ASTM reference? Any thoughts how how A860 materials are allowed to use in ASME 31.8 pipelines. Thanks in Advance.

Qualify it under MMS SP-75. ASTM A860 is not a fitting, it is the steel. You want a fitting. B31.8 references MMS SP-75, which is the specification for high strength low alloy carbon steel fittings (I believe, I'm not looking at it right now) that you will find ASTM A860 material is approved within MMS SP-75.

Specify your fitting on your requisition as,

Elbow, Tee, Reducer, or whatever fitting you want, with X diameter, w Wall Thickness, HS low Alloy CS, Grade WPHY 60, fabricated to MMS SP-75

no further definition is required.

Independent events are seldomly independent.

Thanks BigInch, Checked MSS SP 75, it all make sense.
