auto update after design table change?

How can I get my part to do auto update after I change parameters using a design table? The sketch and part don't update unless I open and close the sketch in the Part Design workbench. Is there any way to just have it update in the assembly design workbench?

I've got my options set to auto update and "all the levels".

My parts are part of an assembly but not part of a catalog so I guess I'm just using the design table.

You need to go to Edit -> Links and select part from the tree. Select the design table, and the part that it controls, and hit the "synchronize" button.

The "synchronize" button is not available. When I try to select the sketch I get the message "Element has no external links."

I want to update from the assembly if it's possible. I've tried edit--links in both the assembly design and part design workbench but I still can't synchronize nor can I select elements. Which type of elements should I be selecting--sketches, part bodies or parts. My design tables show up in the "pointed documents" tab as non-Catia documents.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my first post, but the design tables are linked to the constraints of a sketch which is used in a part body.

I undertand what you are saying. You cannot just grab the design table and, if necessary, all parts in the list? (at which point the "synchronize" button should become active)

What do you mean when you say "grab the design table and all the parts in the list.?" Which list--the part tree?

Appreciate the help.

No - in the list of links.

Grab the design table, and any part associated with it. It helps if they are stored in the same directory, and you can sort them by location path.

Pedro - when you modify and save a design table, a window in catia should pop up and display which table updated.
This should occur regardless of which module you are in. Now if you are in assembly design the update icon should become active. If you are in an active CATpart and your design table affects a different part the update icon does not change, but the Knowledge report menu will still pop up indicating a change. Double pick on your top product to update the entire assembly.

Derek

You are not assigning the design table directly to the constraint - are you?

Derek - I think he's talking about working OUTSIDE of the Assembly, and having the update occur automatically IN the assembly. Now, I know that it sounds like I'm talking stupid, there, but the difference is double clicking a part in the assembly, OR working on the part file aside from the assembly.

My part files do not prompt an update in the assembly if I am working at the part file level. When I am in the assembly and make the change, yes. I even, occassionally, have trouble with the session data being "stuck", forcing me to close Catia to get an update.

I usually solve the problem through Edit -> Links, but apparently decsonstructor is not having any luck with that method.

Solid7 - He can work outside the assembly, although the change is acknowledged with the Knowledge report menu displayed, it will not result until he switches back to either assembly mode or make the updated part active.

Hi guys,

I had the same experience, after you make changes in the design table you must open the part, update it and save... there is no other way.

Damir
