AutoCAD & Vista 3

Someone else must have had this problem or is just about to.

So I bought a new computer on Sunday. It came with Windows Vista. The very first thing I did was load ACADLT2007.

Here is what happened:

Install ACAD....Try to start program....Program won't run

un-install program....re-boot....re-install program....Still won't run

uninstall program....re-boot....turn off PITA Norton....re-install program....still won't run

Think....Think....Think

Remember the compatability issues when XP came out? To get ACADLT2007 to run in Vista here is what I did:

Go to the acadlt.exe file
Right-Click on the file
Go to the Compatability Tab
Check-Run the program in Compatability Mode for Windows XP(SP2)
Click on Show settings for all users
Check-Run this program as an administrator
Click Apply and Ok back out

Program runs fine

I hope this helps anyone as frustrated as I was that ACAD might not yet be compatable with Vista.

I have read, that the vista-users will get a service pack for AC, ADT2007 in April.
Autodesk advices the 2008-versions...

I bought a new computer this morning and discovered the same issue: AutoCAD 2007 and Norton Antivirus 2006 does not work with Vista. I have not tried other engineering programs such as STAAD and Enercalc.

So far I have been able to eliminate the error message about a program not working by going into the properties of the .exe file and using the compatability mode. In the case of some haestad methods software I have had to run in Windows '98 compatability.

I actually went a step farther. I loaded Civil 3D as a demo version and am running it with no issues. I'm only using the Autocad profile as I haven't had time to check out the features of Civil 3D. I'm sure that some of the processor intensive tasks will bog down on my machine. I'm not doing any 3D rendering, my test project is a very flat site.

I need to add that I am running all of this on a laptop with an AMD Turion 64 Mobile processor and only 1GB of RAM. I'm about to add another GB just to be safe.

I also just last night loaded PDF995 so I can plot to PDFs and it works smoother than on XP. I used to have to make sure and save the ACAD file before plotting to PDF because it always crashed ACAD 2000i.

Go to:

C:\Program Files\AutoCAD LT 2007

sort your directory by "Type"

and it should be at the top of the list under the folders.

This is of course after you install the program.

Sometimes the system administrator will make your "Program Files" folder hidden (I think it is hidden in XP by default, don't know about Vista) so you may have to do a little more.

What about AutoCad civil Design 2006. I tried to load it with Vista, no luck.
Any suggestion?
I send back the computer I purchase, I guess I will have to buy a machine with XP.

I'm not sure about the 2006 versions. I'll try and load ACAD 2006 tonight. You must turn off all firewall and anti-virus products. Once the product is installed you then go to the first post on this thread and follow the procedure outlined.

However, just because the program is only a couple of years old doesn't mean that it will even install. I can't get my Nero version 6 to work at all. NERO says it won't. The latest version 7 seems to work though.

I installed and ran ACAD2006 last night. The installation went smoothly after turning off Firewall and Anti-Virus. The program ran fine after I set the compatability to XP-SP2 and Run as an Administrator for both the first tab and for all users.
