VERY new to AutoCad... had it running fine for a month or so... then suddenly get the following message (whenever I try to start it) and the program aborts.

AutoCAD Error Aborting
FATAL ERROR: All of the possible directories for storing temporary files either do not exist or are read only. Please correct this situation before running AutoCad again.

Have followed instructions from
and created C:\Temp which is NOT read only but all to no avail.

Have uninstalled and installed many times.

Have re-installed AutoCAD 2000 (which used to work) but the same thing happened.

Re-installed an ancient version of AutoCAD14 to try that and it simply locks up on start up and when I check I find it is using 100% of the CPU.

At my wits end an would appreciate any suggestions.
