Hi,

We have an old unmanned platform that are going to be used to develop new well, so we will have drilling come next year to our platform. The thing is, this platform was designed unmanned and the blowdown is designed to be manual (by PB or remote from onshore).

Some of my friends thinks that since the platform will have presence of drilling team nearby, it become "manned" on that simops periods and thus, blowdown should be converted to automatic.

On the other hand, some others think that having automatic blowdown while rig is nearby is dangerous, and it is safer to let it as is.

I know that there may not be one correct answer, and a thorough risk assessment shall be conducted. But would you kindly share your experience and opinion on how to decide?

unmanned platforms has a "burn down philosophy" and then there might be a need for looking things over?

Dear MortenA,

Thank you, that is exactly what we are facing now. We are converting this unmanned, with burn down philosophy platform to temporarily "manned" platform. We already resolved other requirement, like fire fighting system, ignition source control, POB management, Emergency evacuation means. What is left is the blowdown philosophy. Do you happen to have such experience? Would you kindly share what was decided at that time and why?
