Hello Eng-Tips.

We are trying to find any information on a simple concept. We have an automotive starter which has a solenoid to engage a spur gear into a larger gear. At the same time it rotates so a flapper can be opened or closed. We are trying to find this concept using a 120vac motor. We are trying to get away from using electrical linear actuators.
I will try an attach a photo of the starter.

Thanks again,

Mike

There are many ways to accomplish your goal but you have given very few detail. The easiest approach may be to get a new electric gear motor and connect it to your flapper through an electric clutch.

We have been looking at that, also. As soon as we have more information I will share it. Trying to determine what kind of hp/torque is needed to size an electric clutch, etc. Who makes a good 120vac clutch, we find a lot of DC.
Thanks
