I understand this is a CEASER thread but can anybody who is familiar with AutoPipe analysis provide me with some assistance.

When is it appropraite to apply ASME B31.3 appendix P to the pipe stress analysis.

I am finding that I am getting radically different results when the Appendix P option is checked and unchecked.

Read Appendix P carfully.

Appendix P is for use when performing a computer analysis. As AutoPIPE is a computer analysis it falls under the requirements of appendix P.

If you compare the equations modified in appendix P you will see where the differances are and how they impact what you are doing.

As a standard when I am working with B31.3 using AutoPIPE I use appendix P for my analysis and design.

So far this has never presented a problem.

A question properly stated is a problem half solved.

ColonelSanders83,
Let's be clear on this subject. You seem to be suggesting that if you are using a Computer based analysis then it is mandatory to use the approach of Appendix P, This is not the case. You can still use Autopipe/Caesar or whatever other computer analysis software and you do not have to adopt the approaches of Appendix P. It is up to the analyst whether he wants to adopt the approaches of Appendix P.
