AWS D1.1/D1.1M

Has anyone purchased the AWS D1.1/D1.1M for 2004? What is the purpose of the "M" in D1.1M? Is the D1.1M essential?
Is the D1.1 alone sufficient?

I don't like to be cheap. But I don't like to spend an extra $200 if not necessary.

Any comments?

M - Metric

D1.M denotes metric units inclusive to the code (similar to ASTM A 6/A 6M).

There are a few changes between the 02 and 04. The most notable being:
*Text is revised to clarify the Engineer's approval requirements.
*CV power supplies are now required for GMAW/FCAW.
*Additional prequalified material specifications.
