In AWS D1.1, tolerance of the joint dimension is defined in Figure 3.3 and 3.4 by "as detailed" and "fit-up". What is the difference between "as detailed" and Fit-up".

For example: (1) For prequalified WPS, which tolerance I should use?

(2) For WPS qualifed by PQR, which tolerance I should use?

Thanks.

The tolerances are the same for standard joint details regardless of whether the WPS is prequalified or qualified by testing.

The "as-detailed" dimensions are the maximum dimensions allowed on the drawing or instructions describing the joint.

The "as-fit up" dimensions are the maxiumum allowed when measured on the part prior to welding the joint.

See D1.1 section 3.12.3

Thanks for your reply.

So, for welding procedure qualification, which one should be used, "As-detail" or "As-fit". Based on your interpretation, we should use "As-detail" tolerance because it is drawing.
