We are trying out a simple CFD model in MSC SCFLow of a simplified axial fan on a shaft sat within a cylinder. In order to determine the output velocity, is it worth having the fan rotate within the simulation with the boundary conditions on the flow input set to ambient with the speed of the shaft set by the motor? I have also heard that it is possible to run the model statically with an input flow, though it feels the results would not be as accurate as the fan will act as a restriction rather than a pump. What would be the best approach, to spin or not?
