Dear Friends

I have a Si-iron pump handling said 68% to 72% Concentrated H2SO4(containing traces of NItric acid - max 6% by vol) in Nitric acid concentration plant; the available useful life of costly Si-iron pumps( M/s Friatec Rhineuhttte, Germany) is hardly 2 years.

I'm looking for a better sealless , preferably mag-drive, pump of proven track record (for identical application of fluid / temp) so that plant area is not spoilt, pump maint cost is not going high , and reliability is raised substantially. (Flow: 16 m3/hr, 25 Meter liq. head, NPSHA - 1.8 meter, 1450 rpm, 50 hz, 415 V VFD motor currently running bet'n 45 to 65 Hz freq, @1300 to 1900 RPM)

Can any friend help me !

What type falilures are you having. Are they chemical corrosion related. Maybe you could try Nucerite glass coated internals on your existing pumps. If I'm noy mistaken they will stand up to the chemicals and heat you mention. We have a lot of glass lined vessels from Pflauder. Maybe they can coat your parts.

Dear Roy

You r certainly right for using glasslined parts; would request more information /details of available source. We have Pfaudler parts esp. plant equipments like column,exchangers(with Tantalum tube bundles & MSGL shells).

Failures originate with gland leakage and then corodes base, outer CI casing and then fitment is lost progressively. Wetted parts are from Si-iron.

Look into a Wilfley AG pump. We are using them to good sucess in sulfuric acid manufacturing service. They are not seal-less, but have an expeller design that is very good in this service. Their newer design A7 expeller is actually not as well-liked by our maintenance folks as the old AG seal, for what it's worth. They don't seal as well if you turn the speed down too much, as they rely on centrifugal force.

Your concentration of H2SO4 is more corrosive than our typical 93-98%. I thought the Si-iron like Z-Corr was not rated for service in less than 88%.

Try to take a look at Dickow pumps:

I have good experience with the ordinary pumps - but they should be among the best to magnetic pumps.

I think they also have a branch in the US if you are from "over there...

thanks for yr feedback! have written to Dickow. As regards to BRT549's suggestion for Wilfley, I shall chk for suitable MOC availability with'em.
