B.Sc. / M.Sc. grade - USA 1

Hi all,
I would appreciate whether someone may direct me how could I get access to the proper US federal authority in order to check out about academic technical institutes and whether they permitted to provide B.Sc. / M.Sc. grade.
I'm not US citizen, trying to dig some info for a friend that intends to learn in the US.

For engineering schools in the U.S., you want to check that the programes are ABET accredited.

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but I don't think there's a federal authority involved here in the US. If you're trying to find qualified educational institutions (at least in engineering), you probably want to talk to ABET (

http://www.abet.org/).

They are generally considered to be the standard by which a school is considered qualified or not by employers/other schools.

Neither CHEA nor USDE accredits schools. They "recognize" certain organizations as valid accreditation agencies. ABET is the only one recognized for general engineering schools.

You have been given excellent advice by TheTick, Overvoltage and IRStuff. For accredidation, ABET sets the standards.

Also, for your information US Federal Agencies (i.e., the US Government, usually have an extension of ".gov" rather than ".org" or ".com." Here's the link to the "front door" for Federal Agencies :

At this site, your friend will find information relating to Visas and anything else to allow him/her to legally attend school in the USA.

Gents,

The only detail that could present a problem is that most schools only get their Undergraduate programs accredited and not their M.Sc. or MS. Eng.
