Hi All, How do you perform a Continuity and discontinuity test on a Insulation flange that transport hydrocarbon?

should we use a “Megger” and what is the required voltage set . Also, I read somewhere in the internet that use of Megger in such test, line should be dried.

Kindly advice please?

We use an old Avo Model 8 analogue multimeter which has a 15V drive voltage for the higher resistance ranges. A standard digital multimeter uses a lower voltage on the resistance ranges and doesn't give accurate results. If you have a megger with a 50V capability then that might suffice, but a typical 500V megger won't be any use for this measurement. The Avo 8 is discontinued, but there are still plenty on the aftermarket.
 
"Megger" in this case means a meg-ohm meter, not to be confused with a brand name that makes this style and other types of test instruments.

Is this a British / British-influenced nickname, or do you guys in the States call insulation resistance testers 'meggers' too?
 
We in the USA generically call a megohmmeter a Megger, a DLRO a ductor, power factor testing Doble and soft tissue used to wipe the nose Kleenex ;)
 
Megger or megger in my experience generally implies testing with 50V, 250V, 500V, 1000V or 2500 V applied.
