Does anyone know where I could find some information about how backfilling can be integrated into longwall and continuous mines? I have heard that this practice is typical of coal mines in Germany and Poland, and a few mines in Australia, but I haven't been able to find any information online beyond the material (FGD sludge, coal combustion byproducts, mine tailings, etc.) used for fill. My local library isn't very helpful either. Specifically, I'm interested in the placement procedure, type of equipment used, and how it affects production time and efficiency. Diagrams would be especially useful. Thanks!

Every backfill situation is different pending your requirements, your source materials and the geometry of your mine. Ultimately there are many ways to do it, but coming up with the simplest, easist and most cost effective solution is the goal. Regards.
