I assume that there are many cables in the mining industry that are in need of high voltage testing and fault locating, including cables used for drag lines as well as cables down the mines. Question: are there any special needs for cable testers or fault locators for mining applications that are different than convention industrial or utility use? For instance, what about cable arcing caused by a thumper looking for the fault in a potentially explosive air environment? For integrity testing, is AC withstand testing still performed or only lower voltage, non arcing diagnostic tests like tan delta and partial discharge performed. Above ground drag lines can be hipoted as usual but are there other applications requiring other methods?
