Baldor Dc motor heats up

Hi members I am new here Thanks.
I have a 0.75 Baldor DC motor that when running gets very hot. The connections I have are A1,A2,F1,F2,F3,F4. I got A1 to A1 and A2 to A2 and F1 to F1 and F2 to F2 I have F3 and F4 not connected. My drive all the connections that are connected except F3 and F4. Help. Why is the motor getting so hot. This motor is being used to turn a cam shaft that does a few different opetations on a traub lathe. Thanks.

It sounds like you have a dual voltage field and all of the field leads should be connected. If this is the case, the motor nameplate should indicate it by showing two voltages in the field data such as 90V/180V.

If you consider the source leads to have an S prefix and the motor leads to have an M prefix, the dual voltage connections would be as follows.

low voltage: SF1-MF1-MF3, SF2-MF2-MF4
high voltage: SF1-MF1, MF2-MF3, SF2-MF4.

Thanks. I removed that motor yesterday and put a regular dc motor with no field voltage options. I did not see the necessity of the field option. Someone else that was working on it ordered the wrong motor burnt the drive that they ordered then the job was passed to me. I installed new dc drive to run the motor they installed with the field option. The machine is running fine now with the dc motor without field option and not getting hot. But I was curious as to reason or necessity of the field option application. I am off till Monday. Then Monday I can have all the specifications to post. Thanks
