dears ,

we have one problem at one site , we are using ball valves DN80 , the contractor sent us back a report mention that most of the seats and balls are damaged !! the factory said that all valves are tested 100% before delivery , so what is the reason behind that ?

Tested to what specification?

What sort of "damage"?

How were they stored and transported?

Did you have any independent inspectors / testing done before delivery?

Could have been fine when they left the factory, but your contractor just flung them on the dirt and then operated them a few time with sand / dirt / grit inside and hey presto - damaged valves.

If you as client or engineer doesn't have your own eyes on the ground then you are blind.

Thx ,

Actually am a distributor and we purchase the valves from one factory and delivered to the site , all valves are inspected and we are sure about that, the damage of the seat is clear , attached some pictures

do you think water hummer happened in the operation and damage the material ?

Hang on,

Your initial post implied that these were brand new and not in operation.

Those pictures are used valves.

what exactly are we looking at - could do with a sectional view. What is the ball in view as it doesn't seem to be sitting on the seat?

If that is a seat then looks to me like someone has opened it under a very high differential pressure or been using it as a throttling valve.

yes we installed the valves and after operation the seats are damaged ! the picture showing the body seat inside the valve . from your point of view this is reason of the damages ?

Pleas send diagram / drawing of the valve so we can understand which seal you are talking about / have pictures of.

currently I have no idea how any dmage could occur, but please also advise

Age of valve,
Type of valve ( two part, three part, what?
Floating or trunnion mounted
Pressure rating of valve
Fluid
where is leak - through the valve seats or out of the valve body?

I agreed that the damage was resulted from the operation. After operation for some time, it's difficult to prove the damage was from the shop. BTW, the valves in the shop might be 100% inspected before shipped out, but not 100% tested.

HI ,

its new valve , we can say 7 months
what do you mean by 2 part or 3 parts ? its ball valve
PN16
fluid : water , application : used in tanker filling station for the drinking purpose.

what is the difference between Floating and trunnion ?

the leake from the seats
