I've been trying to calculate material stresses and retention forces of a metal barbed fitting pressed into a plastic body. I need the barb size and engagement strong enough to hold an internal air pressure but not have such a large overlap that pressing the fittings compromises the material during assembly.
I found the attached GE Plastic Design Guide which I've been referencing but all calculations shown are for interference fits of shafts in bores. They mention that using a barb shape can help improve retention but then fail to address how to design the barb interface.
Does anyone have a good reference they could share that goes into more detail?
