Barrier Test of Pipeline - How is it conducted?

Greetings,

I was studying about Pipeline Pre-Commissioning Activities and came across Barrier Testing. Could the experts here kindly clarify WHY and HOW the barrier test is performed.

Also, could you list the logical sequence (from field experience) in which the pre-commissioning activities (of a cross-country pipeline) are performed.

a barrier is normally a physical item which prevents pressure on one side of the barrier not releasing to the other side.

For safety purposes, you need to test those barriers to show they are effective and working.

I's a very vague question.

Also for pre-comm activities - there are many sources available on this site if you search for them.
