Dear All,
I have a question regarding how to calculate the shear strength of multiple shear lugs. ACI 349-13 has below statements in Appendix D,
"For multiple lugs, the [highlight #EF2929]shear strength[/highlight] should not exceed the shear strength between shear lugs as defined by a shear plane between the shear lugs, as shown in Fig. RD.11.1 and a shear stress limited to 10φ√fc′, with φ equal to 0.85."
I am assuming this means the shear strength allotted to each of the shear lug shall not exceed the shear strength of the concrete between shear lugs. It is not saying the shear strength of all shear lugs in total shall not exceed the concrete shear strength between lugs.
In another word, if I have two shear lugs, the shear divided by two shall not exceed the shear strength of concrete between the two shear lugs.
Can anyone confirm my understanding is correct or not? Thank you in advance.
