When I was browsing my collection of old papers, I found one very interesting named "BASIC SIZING OF NOZZLES - INTERSECTING CYLINDRICAL SHELL UNDER PRESSURE AND PIPING REACTIONS" issued in February – 1976, by John H. Wawrzeniak and Paul T. Balamotis.
If you like too this subject and have some experience about, please contact me in order to discuss this paper validity against current computer facilities or allowances. If necessary I can send a scanned copy.

Sir,

The contemporary common reference is WRC-297 from the Pressure Vessel Research Council. I would like to have a copy of the article for discussion.

In the site below you find, under Vessels -> WRC , a sheet for calculating stresses in a nozzle to cylinder intersection according to WRC297.
If you would like to compare with your reference, we all would be pleased to know the results...

aombr,

I, at one time worked for John Wawrzeniak at Brown & Root in Houston Texas....As noted above, the guidance in the WRC papers #107/297 are the standards used in industry for sizing of nozzles. Several organizations (COADE-CAERSAR-II, for example) have structured theirsoftware around the empirical data contained within these two WRC Bulletins.

The older paper that you are refering to is seldom used.
