I have had several incidents where a previous designer has provided equalization pipes connecting basins together. For modeling purposes I have always ignored these pipes and used the combined volumes of the basins in my stage storage data. Is this a valid approach or is there another way this should be modeled in Hydrocad?

If you know that the ponds will remain equalized then you can model them as a single pond, including the storage from both. But if the connector is restrictive and ponds do not remain equalized, then they should be modeled as two separate ponds. Each approach has its uses.

I guess I should look at the contributing drainage area and the size of the equalization pipe between the two basins then model both scenarios and go with the worse case.
