I purchased a new battery a week ago because my battery light came on and the next time i tried to start it, it wouldn't start. After replacing the batter and driving around for the weekend i found monday that it wouldn't start again. I took the alternator out and had it tested and it tested okay. after that i checked the fusible link between the alternator and the starter and it had melted, so i bought a new fusible link and replaced it. I got some one to boost me and it started up and i was able to drive. the next day the battery was drained again. i have tried everything i can think of if anyone has anyother ideas it would be greatly appreaciated thanks.

It sounds like you may have an intermittent short to ground in your starter.

If your fusible link melts again, I would replace the starter.

If the battery is going flat so fast with the ignition off then it implies a fault in a permanently connected load.

Burglar alarm, alternator or starter motor for a start. If you can measure the static load current which should be a few mA if there is a burglar alarm connected then try disconnecting them one at a time. Include the alternator in that as there might be leakage even though you said you checked it out OK.

If disconnecting these things doen not remove the drain then look for a faulty relay on a circuit that would normally be off when the ignition is off, fuel pump for example.

It sounds seriously basic. Is the polarity right on the battery?

thanks to all who replied. the problem has been solved the place that sold me the battery gave me a bad battery so i warrantied it and now everything is working fine once again thanks
