I am working on a research project that involves mounting a 5x6x0.375x120" beam to the side of a 18-wheeler. I have done a modal analysis to get an idea of the natural frequencies, I am looking into using MSC Adams in the future. Until then, I was planing on doing a stationary free-free mount with accelerometers on the beam. Although I am not sure how to produce frequencies from 0-20 Hz. As I imagine the truck vibration is within this range.
Questions that brought me here:
1) What is the typical magnitude of g-force vibration in a truck? Would I be fine with a 0.5 g pk accelerometer or should I look into +/ 5 g pk or higher?
2) Is there a standard equipment to produce vibration? I was suggested an oscilloscope although I am unsure how to incorporate a testing with this.
3) Would mounting to a smaller truck and skipping the lab testing above be more ideal?
