Bearing failure at 36,000 RPM

We trashed a thermomolecular vacuum pump this weekend (Leybold Turbovac 1000C). They operate at 36,000 RMP. We had an apparent bearing failure and there is not a blade left on the shaft.
I have no experience in condition monitoring at this speed. I'm not sure what the P-F curve would look like.
Assistance would be appreciated.

Hmm. Close tolerance bearings are required, and maybe the speed is such that you get resonance somewhere. Check specs for the old bearings, and if they are appropriate, then adjust the speed a little. You could attach a high-frequency vibration sensor to measure at varying speed.
