Can anybody recommend a material that could be used to make steel the wearing material. The load on the bearing is high and a steel on bronze will not work. The load is on the order of 1200 kips.

It would be nice to know:

The rubbing velocity.
The pressure on the rubbing surface,
or the area of the rubbing surface and the load in some force unit.
What lubricating fluid if any is present.

What do _you_ mean by 'kips'? It's not a standard unit everywhere.

I guess in this context you mean Kilo pounds or 1,200,000 pounds.

Shaft diameter and speed of rotation is what we need to advise on bearing types as there are a range of materials we use.

We have tested our bearings to 1,000,000Kg or 2,200,000 pounds for use in crane pulley blocks.

Thes were Maritex composites.

Sorry for the delay in my response, but we no longer are looking into alternative materials. However, I am curious to know of alternative materials to use.

The rotation of the shaft is around .2 RPM with a diameter of 33". The load is 1.2 million pounds.
