Which are the main differences in designing bellow type expansion joint according to EJMA or ASME. The application is on a double pipe heat exchanger ASME code designed and constructed. Thanks for your help.

If I remember correctly the EJMA caters for thin bellows and these are specially engineeried items.
ASME/TEMA gives guidelines for thick bellow design.

ab1234[ has you pointed in the right direction. Here is a little extra help. Go to there recents projects and look at the thick bellows designs and you can readily see the difference.

PS:
Always take the shipping brackets off after installation prior to using the equipment.

The prior replies were considering flanged and flued type expansion joints which are covered in Section VIII, Div 1, Appendix 5. The question I believe is addressing thing walled bellows type expansion joints, which are covered in Appendix 26.

The stress equations in Appendix 26 are essentially the same as in EJMA. The fatigue equation in Apendix 26 is more conservative as it is a design equation with safety factors, whereas the EJMA fatigue curve is based on average data. The stress limits are different, and the more recent EJMA editions have added a number of equations dealing with limit load and stability failure modes, which are not found in the current Section VIII rules.

Maybe I can add some more. The ASME App 26 only applicable for thin wall < 3.2 mm. Please read the General para in this appendix. Now I am also designing the bellow type expansion joint with reinforcement for heat exchanger as per EJMA seventh edition (is it a new one ??)
