I'm looking for suggestions on the best square metal bar stock or t bar stock that would resist bending the most while being used as a truss rod in a guitar neck. This would be a non adjustable guitar truss rod of course and the ultimate material would keep the neck perfectly flat under the pressure from the guitar strings. The material would be glued inside of the guitar neck to keep it flat.

Size of the material would have to be no bigger than 1/4" x 1/4" square for bar stock. A smaller size would be better of course due to weight concerns, but stiffness and strength is the primary concern.

What material will resist bending the most?

Appreciate the response. I was a little familiar with Pau Lopa as I have a 16' x 50' deck made from it. You don't how stiff it is until you work with it.

I use mesquite in the smoker so you might want to check with the supplier of these chips. I have a few left and all pieces have straight grain.

Here is a supplier of carbon fiber rod. The technical papers has s several cross sections of necks that work until you get the permanent solution.

I'm try to get in touch with an old coworker that is now QC for very large Carbon fiber composite manufacture for the aircraft industry. Cutting a bar to the required shape is going to a chore. I would look at laying up a composite shape with the long fibers on the bottom.

I have been overwhelmed with guitars this week. First I found out what was going on a building that has no but cars come and go, not it isn't a dope dealer, it's an electric company apply named the Electric Guitar Company run by a Kevin Burkett. According to the information in the paper he can't make enough of them. Last but not least I was at the doctor's office and going through the reading material here was an article about another guitar builder. It gave his materials of construction as Mahogany, heart Redwood, and Ebony. Though id didn't spell it out in the pictures it sure looks like he is using Ebony for the neck.

Again a SWAG in the article on the electric guitar it looks like he is machining at least one from solid sock.

From what I have seen this is more of a Mecanical problem ,the rod
remains very straight as it is under extreme tension , applied to balance out the bend caused by the string tension !

It reminded me of piano wire .
