Hello Eng-Tips,

I've been on this forum for quite some time (under a different username) and have been working on a new structural engineering software for the last couple years, in part, due to this thread. My co-founder and I felt there was a better way to perform code-based structural engineering calculations

CalcBook is a structural engineering software that streamlines the production of code-based structural engineering calculations. We just launched the Beta version and are looking for testers to provide valuable feedback. Beta testers who review the software and complete a short questionnaire will receive 2 months free when we go to market. Just head over to CalcBook and hit the download beta button. We appreciate your feedback!

(Mods - we hope we are not violating any rules here. We felt that since we are not selling anything, this is post is OK. We are just hoping to tap into the vast amount of knowledge on this forum to help make a better software that we will all end up using)

Thanks for the feedback, geoffdale!

Wondering if there is a direct way to input the eccentric load on the welding calculations or just the moment?

Right now, we are only offering the ability to directly input the force or moment as shown. Users will need to determine the moment before entering. Being able to input Force + eccentricity is something we plan on implementing later in development.

Also, the member check is mostly once you’ve done the moment and shear etc calculations? If there’s steps before the input, that might dissuade some people?

Correct. Currently, the program only allows the user to input the forces/moments directly. We do plan on implementing simple beam analysis that will allow the user to determine shears/moments from typical beam loading scenarios.

Thanks for the feedback, Celt83!

We noticed the GUI error on the connections as well... unfortunately not until after we shipped beta. It is fixed for Version 1.0.

Interesting point on the angle weld. We have been using Blodgett's weld design guides as a point of reference during development. We will take a closer look.

For the member computations getting some form of analysis baked into the software would be a huge improvement, performing the analysis somewhere else and then transferring the critical bending moment to the input fields introduces the opportunity for a ton of error in the design.

We do plan on implementing simple analysis for typical beam loading scenarios (think AISC beam tables). We will try to get this in for Version 1.0.

if you put some video segments for each design/analysis application would be much helpful
than just letting others read every inputs and try them accordingly , still your work is solid.
when you promote a thing/Eng. always presume zero level of prospect engineers [background or experience]
wish you all the best ...

CalcBook Version 1.0 is now here!

Thanks to all those who participated in Beta and also provided feedback here. We have incorporated several of your comments and are continuing to improve the functionality and push updates weekly.

Head over to calcbook.com to download your free trial.

Feel free to email me directly with any questions: peter@calcbook.com

Cheers!
