Is there an appropriate ref. table pertaining to the uses of butt welding boiler pressure vessel parts (shells, chambers, etc.) For example, if the boiler shell is 1/2" thick, when butting two shells together on a girth weld, should the weld be a single bevel groove or a single V groove? Is it a better practice to bevel one edge or both mating edges? What bevel angle should be used?

depends on how you are fabricating.

shops normally us V groove where vessel turns under welding.

field often uses single sided bevel with flat side on bottom when vessel is stationary and weld moves around vessel. helps puddle stay put
