Blasting: Ground Conditions Effects

I am currently looking at the effects of quarry blasting on a nearby buried pipeline. The limited info I have on this (based on work by Esparaza) gives pipe stress increases for a given charge size, type and standoff distance, and looks at "deep" and "shallow" cases. However it takes no account of ground conditions. Can anyone point me towards some more detailed guidelines?

Be very carefull here. Sooner or later someone will point you in the direction of Peak Particle Velocity measurements and assure you that is all you need to consider. Theres ALL kinds of practical blasting considerations that come into play that cannot be evaluated by anyone other than a qualified blaster during a site investigation
 
has there been blast monitoring ongoing at the location in question? and when you say "nearby", are you talking 100', 1000', 10000', etc? and as miningman eludes to, when it comes to blasting, one can quickly venture far beyond what they should be trying to evaluate, so hire a qualified firm to look at this. PPV is easy to measure and will essentially get the basis for whether or not the blasting exceeds the approved level of ground motion according to the permit. whether or not the pipe will be directly/indirectly damaged is a different story...
