Kindly advise what should I do if for some reason I have to cut and replace our first valve on the ASME boiler boundry. What does code say on the operated boiler with that case, thanks.

It seems that this topic (or something close to it) had already been discussed:

Shmulik,
Thread 794-42433 is talking about replacing PRV, not mentioned weather weld connection or flange connection type of PRV. I am more interested on the cutting weld job, which I understood that will require hydrotest, but I am not 100% sure. Is anybody could help me out. Thanks.

I will assume this is a field erected boiler designed to the requirements of the ASME BPVC having an operating pressure, temperature and/or a diameter that exceeds the allowable limit for threaded attachments.

This action would be classified as a repair. If you desire to continue having a boiler that complies with and is certified to the ASME code, then the repair should be accomplished in accordance with the NBIC ANSI/NB-23, Part RC Repairs And Alterations Of Pressure Retaining Items.

The boiler will require a pressure test and possibly some NDE depending on material and operating conditions. A company in possession of a current and valid NBIC “R” stamp should be able to detail the specific requirements.
