Boiler Room ???

Hi

New to this boiler stuff …..
Working on an industrial application which requires 2 nos. 80 HP water tube steam boilers to be installed.
Can the boilers be installed in a suitable location anywhere in the plant or does it have to have a fire separation ?

If it is to be enclosed ….which regulations apply (project site in Ontario, Canada)

I recently came across information regarding boiler and pressure vessel rules for Alberta, CA. First and foremost, contact the city or local district within Ontario where the boiler will be installed and find out which department regulates boiler and pressure vessels.

Second, request a copy of their regulations for boiler installations and applicable Canadian Standards Association (CSA) code;

For example in Alberta, they have specific regulations for design, construction and installation of boilers and pressure vessel regulations;
CSA B51 Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code

The typical small "boiler room" layout in the USA has the following:

- Located on 1st floor/basement with outside wall, concrete floor with drainage trench, and outside air vent

- Contains, two boilers, stack(s),condensate receiver/FW pumps, chemical addition equipment, motor control center,tools, spare parts, sometimes a water softener, sometimes a deaerator, sometimes blowdown equipment and a guy reading a newspaper

- Access is restricted (insurance reasons)or a seperate building is commonly used

check with your local fire inspection people, they will be able to give you proper instructions.
Some cities/counties have their own regulations, furthermore there is your insurance company that will impose its rules and their are federal rules in NFPA.
The fire marshall will be able to help you with the right answers.

In Canada, It will be the "Department of Labour", of the Jurisdiction where the Installation is to be done.
