Dear Experts,

we are experiencing high chlorine levels in one of our units (0.3ppm) in the boiler drum, the boiler pressure is 150 bar and we are on maximum blow down.
no chlorine is detected in feed water so we are doubting a condenser tube leak, the PH is fine (9.2) and the conductivity is within the normal range.
the chlorine is clearly outside the limits, what would be the consequences of prolonged running at this level, and does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing the high chlorine levels.

kindest regards.

Just to be clear do you mean chlorine or chloride?

Hello Ashtree,

it is chlorine.

thanks and best regards.

You mean that you analyzed for Cl? Or did you confirm the chemical species as Cl?
Though shortly it will react with other ions in the system and you will have chloride salts.
Accelerated corrosion in the boiler by striping of the passive Fe oxide film, and likely transport into the turbine and causing SCC in the roots of the blades, and getting into everything else further down in the system.
Where on earth did it come from?

Dear EdStainless,

our research aims to verify if we contain O2 and Ph what would be the chlorine effect?

I am referring to chlorine cl and not chloride cl-

thank you so much for your reply and your kind follow up.
