Bolted Joint reference for a beginner? 3

Hello, I am a recent graduate working as a Mechanical Engineer. My job will require me to have a relatively in depth understanding of bolted joint design. Does anyone have any reference materials they would recommend? Ideally I would like to first read a book that deals more with the basics, to help me come up to speed, and then also a book that is more in depth that I will be able to regularly reference. However, if you have a book in mind that both deals with the basics and also provides depth, that would be even better. In school we didn't spend much time on fasteners, so I feel like I have some ground to make up...

Thanks both of you for the responses. Corypad, I appreciate the link, but I was hoping specifically for references that others have had experience with and would recommend. I recognize that there are a large number books out there and I was hoping for help in narrowing down my search.
 
I wrote the FAQ that was linked. I own all of those references and find them to be the most useful ones for this kind of work.
 
Bruhn and Niu would be good starters,
then scan the NACA reports
 
The books in Cory's list are most of the same ones that I would recommend. If you are looking more at industrial applications rather than aero, you might want to look at the Bickford book first; he spends a lot of time an gasketed joints.

For information about VDI 2230, read Handbook of Bolts and Bolted Joints. The VDI method of computing joint stiffness is superior to all others that I have seen. It agrees better than other approaches when comparing simple calculated behavior with measured joint behavior.

I'd second MintJulep's recommendation. Bickford's book is the go-to reference book for bolted joints.
Shigley's "Mechanical Engineering Design" book is also a handy reference which discusses bolted joints (amongst other things), though not as thoroughly as Bickford's book:
